Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arrived in New York, USA to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). A VVIP chartered aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage landed at New York’s JFK International Airport at 10:25 pm (local time).
Ambassador of Bangladesh to Washington Muhammad Imran and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Muhammad Abdul Muhith welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport. Earlier, the flight left London’s Stansted International Airport on September 19 at 8pm (local time).
Before leaving the UK, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II along with other world leaders at London’s Westminster Abbey on Monday. The Queen’s funeral was held at Westminster Abbey, the building where she was married and crowned Queen.
On September 15, Sheikh Hasina arrived in London on a state visit to the United Kingdom (UK) to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. On the evening of the fourth day of her visit to the UK, the Prime Minister attended a reception for King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. He organized the reception in honor of the presidents, prime ministers, kings and queens who came from different countries to participate in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the reception hosted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the opening ceremony of the 77th session of the UNGA in New York on September 20 (Bangladesh time today). He will hold bilateral meetings with UNHCR’s Filippo Grandi and Slovenian President Barut Pahar. She will participate in UNGA’s Platform for Women Leaders.
At the end of the day, he will attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden. In addition, he will participate in a high-level event on sustainable housing jointly organized by Bangladesh, Botswana, Slovak Republic and UN Habitat on September 21. On the same day, he will hold a bilateral meeting with WEF Executive Director Professor Schwab Klaus and attend the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) Champions Meeting.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister visited the Padma bridge exhibition at the United Nations headquarters. Viosa Osmani-Sadriu will hold bilateral meetings with Ecuadorian President Guillermo Laso Mendoza.
On 22 September, the Prime Minister will have a courtesy call on IOM Director-General Antonio Vitorino after a breakfast meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). He will participate in a high-level roundtable with the US Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce. He will later hold bilateral meetings with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdek Akka Moha Sena Padei Teko Hun Sen and ICC Prosecutors Nick Clegg and Karim Khan.
On September 23, the Prime Minister will address the General Debate of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Apart from this, he will attend a civic reception for expatriate Bangladeshis on September 24.
