Rakibul (22), a dengue-stricken youth from Ishwardi, died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital. He died on Tuesday (September 20) afternoon while undergoing treatment in the hospital’s ICU bed. Rakibul used to work at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.

The doctor said that Rakibul was admitted to Ramek Hospital on the afternoon of September 17. After that, when his physical condition deteriorated, he was sent to the hospital’s ICU at around 2 pm on September 18.

According to family sources, Rakibul got married in the neighboring district at the beginning of this year. A month ago, he joined his new job at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in his upazila. He was first admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Hospital and later to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with severe fever, headache and abdominal pain.

Doctors said that Rakibul’s urine was decreasing. The concerned doctor of the ward checked kidney function and sent him to the ICU of Ramek Hospital as the report was 4 times worse than normal. All measures were taken as per rules. He had a fever of 106 degrees.

According to hospital sources, such an incident happened in the hospital after about 2 years. It is possible to prevent this mosquito-borne disease. Meanwhile, according to the information provided by Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, 19 dengue patients are receiving treatment in the hospital today. On Monday this number was 7 people.

Brigadier General Doctor Shamim Yazdani, director of the hospital, said, ‘Dengue patients are being treated in different medicine wards of the hospital. Although separate wards are not arranged for them, they are being treated by keeping them under mosquito nets in the dengue corner in each medicine ward.’
