Dhaka: The cover of the book titled ‘Bangladesh-Japan Diplomatic Relations (1972-2022): A New Paradigm Strategic Partnership’ was unveiled. On Tuesday (September 20), Dhaka University Japanese Studies Department Associate Professor Dr. Dhaka Japan Embassy. Md. A program was organized on the occasion of the unveiling of this book written by Jahangir Alam.

Minister of State for Culture KM Khaled, MP was present at the unveiling ceremony as the chief guest. The special guest was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University. ASM Maqsood Kamal. Japanese Ambassador to Dhaka Ito Naoki gave a welcome speech on the occasion.

Speaking as the chief guest, Minister of State for Culture KM Khaled said, this book emphasizes the current relationship and future direction of the relationship between the two friendly countries. Bangladesh can learn from Japan’s phenomenal development, especially how the country rose from the rubble after World War II.

In the speech of the special guest, Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal said that since Japan is Bangladesh’s largest bilateral development partner and has been assisting in the implementation of several significant megaprojects including Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Terminal, Dhaka MRT Line, which has accelerated Bangladesh’s development dream, this book is a major milestone. will be considered as

In his welcome speech, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki mentioned that this book will play a very influential role in future academia, especially in the field of Japan-Bangladesh relations. He congratulated and thanked the author for writing this book.

Member of Bangladesh Government Work Commission and Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University spoke as the main speaker. Delwar Hossain. He said, this book especially covers contemporary topics including political science, international relations, area studies, trade and investment, development studies.

Chairman of the Japanese Studies Department presided over the event. Abdullah-al-Mamun. He noted, this is a rare academic endeavor in bilateral relations between the two countries. The program was conducted by Shibli Noman, assistant professor of the department.

In this book, divided into ten chapters, the author has extensively discussed the history, current status and future trends of diplomatic relations between Japan and Bangladesh. A fundamental objective of the book is to explore and examine the broader Japan-Bangladesh relationship to understand Japan’s paradoxical development models and apply them to Bangladesh’s development policy initiatives and plans to achieve the SDGs by 2030 and Vision 2041.

In various chapters, the author has tried to present a comparative discussion between South Asian countries by reviewing the evolution of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan in line with current global trends and making relevant policy recommendations for further improvement of bilateral relations. Many researchers and academics believe that Japan’s economic development model should be emulated in Bangladesh. Several chapters of this book revisit the broader diplomatic relationship between Bangladesh and Japan to explore the possibility that it could contribute to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
