Journalist Shireen was ‘deliberately’ killed

A few days ago, Israel admitted to the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Akleh. The country claimed that one of its soldiers shot Shireen as a ‘terrorist’.

But a joint investigation by a London-based multidisciplinary research group and a Palestinian rights group says Shirin was killed ‘deliberately’.

Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Tuesday (September 20). According to the report, the results of the joint investigation by two groups, Forensic Architecture and Al-Haq, show that the journalist Shirin was deliberately killed by the soldiers of the Jewish state of Israel.

On May 11, Shirin Abu Akleh was killed while collecting news of the army operation in Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West. An Israeli soldier shot him in the head and killed him.

The investigation reportedly examined the exact angle of the sniper shot by the Israeli. He (the sniper) apparently realized there were journalists in the raided area.

According to the investigation, the shots were fired two minutes after Shireen was targeted. Those trying to rescue him were also targeted.

The sniper fired three times. First six; Eight seconds later, seven more. One of the bullets hit Shireen in the head. The other is under his helmet. Two minutes later, the Israeli sniper shot again. At that time, three shots were fired to stop the efforts of those who were going to rescue Shireen.

The findings come a day after Shirin’s family formally submitted a formal complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC) demanding justice for his murder. Shirin’s brother Anton said the family will do whatever it takes to ensure accountability for the murder.

More than 16 shots were fired at Shireen and her colleagues as we said earlier, Anton told Al Jazeera.

These allegations are supported by the Palestinian Press Syndicate and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
