Bangladesh women’s football team made history. Bangladesh won their first South Asian title by defeating Nepal at their home ground.

Krishna Rani Sarkar scored two goals in the team’s victory. Shamsunnahar Jr. came in as a substitute and scored a goal at the beginning of the match.

The Sabina Khatun-led side celebrated the title after defeating Nepal 3-1 in the final at the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu on Monday. The whole country rejoices with such skill of the disciples of Golam Rabbani Chotan.

Earlier in 2016, Bangladesh missed out on the title by losing the final against India.

India won the title by single-handedly dominating the past five editions. This time, Bangladesh dismissed India before the semi-finals.

After India’s departure, the South Asian football tournament saw a new champion through the girls of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has won all five matches in this series. Bangladesh lost 6 of their last 8 matches against Nepal, while the remaining two matches were drawn.

In 1999, it was in Nepal that the Bangladesh men’s football team became the best in South Asia for the first time; After 22 years, girls became the best in Nepal.

Bangladesh beat Bhutan by a huge margin of 8-0 with captain Sabina Khatun’s hat-trick in the semi-finals.

Bangladesh girls beat India 3-0, Pakistan 6-0, and Maldives 3-0 on the way to the semi-finals.
