Police have arrested two admins of the Facebook page named ‘Barisal BBQ’ on the charges of hacking the IDs of several people and extorting them as hostages.
On Tuesday (September 20) afternoon, they were handed over to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Barisal and applied for remand. The court granted a three-day remand. Earlier on September 19, a woman named Marufa Akhter filed a case against the admins of Barisal barbecue page.
The arrested are Kawshar Khalifa (22), son of Shaheen Khalifa of Medical College Road, Mashrafe Hossain (21), son of Kamal Hossain, resident of C&B No. 1 pool.
It is known that when going to sightseeing places with a lover or with relatives, pictures were taken secretly. Those pictures were posted from two Facebook pages named ‘Barisal BBQ’ and ‘BBQ TV’ with obscene captions. Later, those whose pictures were posted were contacted and the pictures were deleted by paying various amounts.
Two admins of the page were arrested on Monday (September 19) in a case filed by a victim woman.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mehdi Hasan, investigating officer of the case, said that so far they have admitted to being the admins of the two pages. The identities of others involved are not being released at this time. The matter will be informed after the completion of the entire investigation.
City’s Kotwali Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Chagir Hossain said that when they were arrested and interrogated in the Digital Security Act and extortion case filed by the victim Marufa Begum, they admitted to being the admins of the two pages. Apart from this, the police found proof of running that page. The electronic equipment used to run the page has already been seized.
