Dhaka: The mercury in the thermometer left the room at 37 degrees Celsius due to a heatwave sweeping over the country. However, this may be mitigated by increased rainfall.

The Meteorological Office has given such a forecast on Friday (September 09) night.

Meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam said that the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Sylhet, 37.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded in Dhaka was 36.6 degrees Celsius. However, there has been rain in some areas. The highest rainfall occurred in Feni, 67 mm.

At present mild heat wave is passing over Dhaka, Tangail, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Bogra, Netrakona, Srimangal and Sylhet districts and it may subside at some places.

According to a forecast, the low pressure over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Bay of Bengal is currently over West-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal. It can be condensed. Due to this, deep convective clouds are formed in North Bay of Bengal. Monsoon axis extends over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, clear low pressure center and southern Bangladesh to Assam. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong elsewhere in northern Bay of Bengal.

In this situation, light to moderate rain/thunder with temporary gusty wind and lightning may occur in many places of Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and some places of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions till Saturday (September 10) evening. Also, there may be moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of the country.

Day temperatures may drop slightly and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country. Dhaka will have wind speed of 10-15 kmph from southeast/east direction.

The trend of rainfall will increase in two days. There may be slight changes in the extended five days.

Meanwhile, due to low pressure in the sea, the seaports have been asked to display warning signal number three. And all fishing trawlers and boats have been instructed to steer clear of the coast.

Another forecast said – South/South over Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Pabna, Rangpur, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet regions. 45-60 km per hour from southeast direction. Rain/Thundershower with gusty/gusty winds at times. The river ports in these areas have been asked to display the number one warning signal.
