Advisor to the former caretaker government, economist, historian, researcher, teacher and freedom fighter. Akbar Ali Khan’s burial has been completed. His burial took place at Mirpur Intellectual Cemetery on Friday at 3 pm. Family members and relatives were present at this time.

Earlier, his funeral was completed after Friday prayers at Gulshan-1 Azad Mosque. Then he was given a guard of honor by the district administration in the mosque premises. Planning Minister MA Mannan, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam, Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trustee Dr. participated in the funeral. Zafrullah Chowdhury, NBR former chairman Badiur Rahman and other dignitaries.

In the morning, the body of Akbar Ali Khan was taken from Evercare Hospital’s freezer to his home in Gulshan. Relatives and dignitaries paid their respects there. The Trustee of the Public Health Center Dr. went to pay his respects. Zafrullah Chowdhury, former secretary Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, former ACC chairman Golam Rahman, banker and economic analyst Mamun Rashid, poet and journalist Sohrab Hasan and others.

At this time Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury said, ‘It was like a star fell from the sky. There were few noble, brave and efficient administrators like him. I saw him many times during the nine months of the liberation war. He was young then. Around thirty. The hard work he has done to promote Bangladesh abroad is unique.

Today the nation suffered a great loss. Especially at this time when an omen is all around. There is no one who speaks the truth. A few days ago he said, don’t do EVM. He always respected people’s speech. He was never afraid to tell the truth.’

Muyid Chowdhury said, ‘Such people are given a lot of importance in Europe and America. In our country, there is some inadequacy, reluctance in this regard. We wish that not all truths can be told. And Akbar Ali Khan was such that he should speak the truth. That was his real qualification.’

Golam Rahman said, ‘He took many initiatives to create a social security zone. As a result freedom fighter allowance, widow allowance, old age allowance and other allowances are gradually introduced.’

Sohrab Hossain said, ‘What he has given to Bangladesh and the people of Bangladesh as a writer, as a thinker is incomparable. Future generations will remember him. He will live on through his writings and actions.’

Akbar Ali Khan died at the age of 78 on Thursday night. He was suffering from various diseases related to old age. Akbar Ali Khan was born in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria in 1944. After receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Dhaka University, he received master’s and PhD degrees in economics from Queen’s University, Canada.

After that, he started his professional career with government jobs. During the liberation war in 1971, he was the District Administrator or SDO of Habiganj. He was prosecuted by the Pakistan military government for actively working with the Mujibnagar government at that time. He was sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment in his absence.

After independence, he again entered the career as a bureaucrat. Appointed to the post of secretary after fulfilling various duties in his working life. He served as Finance Secretary and Cabinet Secretary to the Government. Later became the alternate executive director of the World Bank. Akbar Ali Khan was also an advisor to the former caretaker government. He has also taught in various universities.

His two books on economics namely ‘Economics of Altruism’ and ‘Ajab and Jabar-Ajab Ajab’ are quite popular.

Condolences of various organizations and individuals: Rashed Khan Menon, president of Workers’ Party and general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, expressed deep grief over the death of Akbar Ali Khan and condoled with the bereaved family; People’s Forum President Mustafa Mohsin Montu and General Secretary Subrata Chowdhury; National Awami Party (NAP) Chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and Secretary General M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan; Various organizations and individuals including the President of the Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry of Jatiya Sangsad, Freedom Fighter R.A.M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury MP.

In the statement they said, Akbar Ali Khan’s death is an irreparable loss to the country and nation. He was an outspoken man. He has worked with devotion for the country. He was an honest, talented and patriotic man. The nation will feel its emptiness. He was the wealth of the country. He can be an ideal teacher for the new generation of bureaucrats.
