In two villages of Sirajganj’s Ullapara, a total of nine bodies, including six members of the same family, have been buried. Mourning is going on in the house of the dead.

On Friday morning, Shanti Khatun, the wife of the deceased Shamser Ali, was fainting repeatedly in Shibpur village of the upazila. Not only her husband, son Shaheen, daughter-in-law Mokam Hossain, grandson Monnaf Hossain and Debor Afsar Ali also lost this woman in her sixties. Jahangir Hossain, another child of the old woman, was admitted to the hospital in a sick condition. He is currently under treatment at Sirajganj Sadar Hospital. Earlier on Thursday, five people were buried in Shibpur and four in Matikora in the upazila late night.

Shams’s wife Shanti said in a tearful voice, ‘There is nothing left in my family. Soon my husband, children, daughter-in-law, grandson died. I can’t bear this grief.’

Same situation in Matikora village. Four people including two children died in that village due to lightning. The bodies of the dead were buried at night. Mourning is going on in the house of the dead. Abdul Quddus, Shah Alam, Ritu Khatun and Jannati Khatun died in that village.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-4 (Ullapara) Constituency Tanveer Imam visited the two villages. He also provided financial support to the families of the deceased. Apart from this, financial assistance of 25 thousand taka has been given to each family by the upazila administration.

It is to be noted that six people including five members of the same family were killed by lightning while collecting rice seeds in Matikora village of Panchkroshi union of Ullapara upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon. At least six others were injured. Three others including two children died on the way to the hospital.
