A group of Awami League leaders are trying to get nominated for the post of chairman in Bogra Zilla Parishad elections. Many have already bought nomination papers. However, the four leaders of the district Awami League are now in Dhaka to confirm their candidacy. They are presenting their position to the central leaders in various ways including collecting nomination papers.
They are the senior vice-president of the district Awami League and the current administrator of the district council. Maqbul Hossain, Joint General Secretary and former Acting Chairman of Zilla Parishad Asadur Rahman Dulu, Publicity and Publication Secretary and former Panel Mayor of Zilla Parishad Sultan Mahmud Khan Roni and Vice President and former Municipal Mayor Advocate Rezaul Karim Montu.
Apart from these four leaders, the candidates for the post of chairman include District Awami League Vice-President T Zaman Niketa, District Awami League Organizing Secretary Advocate Zakir Hossain Nawab, Former Member of Zilla Parishad and General Secretary of Sadar Upazila Awami League Mafuzul Islam Raj, District Jubo League President Shubashish Poddar. Liton, former organizing secretary of Awami League, Abdul Mannan Akand. Some of them have also withdrawn forms to get party nomination.
District Awami League vice-president T Zaman Niketa told Dhaka Times that he will work wherever party chief Sheikh Hasina asks him to work.
District Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Sultan Mahmud Khan Rony told Dhaka Times that he wants to develop Bogra by making use of five years of experience. That is why he wants to win the election with party nomination for the post of chairman. Besides, he will work on behalf of whomever the president nominates.
Abdul Mannan Akand, the former organizing secretary of the city Awami League, told Dhaka Times that he will be an independent candidate if he is not nominated by the party for the post of chairman.
District Awami League President Mujibur Rahman Majnu told Dhaka Times that according to the central directive, three names have been asked to be sent. As such, the names of potential candidates will be sent to the center after discussion in the party forum. Apart from this, there is a possibility of determining the candidate for the Zilla Parishad member post as in the previous election.
It should be noted that in Bogra Zilla Parishad elections, 1 woman member will be elected as chairman, 12 women members will be elected in 12 wards and four women members will be elected in 4 reserved wards. There are 1 thousand 623 total voters in the election. Among them there are 1 thousand 240 male voters and 383 female voters. As per the announced schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers is September 15 and selection is September 18. Appeals against the selection can be made from 19 to 21 September. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 25th September, allotment of symbols is 26th September. Voting will be held on October 17.
