9 people were killed by lightning in Ullapara of Sirajganj. Five of them were from Shibpur village of the upazila. Hosna Khatun (60) of nearby Enayatpur Mallikpara village died of cardiac arrest on the way back to see the dead body. She is the wife of Shobha Ali Mallick of that village.
Locals said that in the evening, people came from different villages to see the dead bodies of those killed by lightning. Shobha Ali Mallik’s wife also came from Enayetpur Mallikpara like everyone else. Hosna Khatun fell ill on the way home after seeing the dead body. Later, the relatives took him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Azad Hossain, Ward No. 7 Councilor of Ullapara Municipality, confirmed the truth of the matter on Thursday (September 8) around 9:30 pm.
He told Jago News that Hosna, wife of Shobha Ali Mallik of Enayatpur Mallikpara village, suffered a stroke on her way back after seeing the body from Shibpur village in the evening. Later the locals rescued him and took him to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead. The body is currently being prepared for burial.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, 9 people died due to lightning in Ullapara. The deceased are Mokam Hossain (55), Monnaf Hossain (20), Shamser Ali (52), Shahin (32) and Akhter Hossain (65) of Shibpur village of the upazila. The rest are Abdul Quddus (60), Shah Alam (42), Ritu Khatun (14) and Jannati Khatun (12) of Matikora village.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Ullapara Circle) Mahfuz Hossain confirmed the truth of the incident to Jago News.
