Bangladesh and the US are organizing the Indo-Pacific Army Management Seminar (IPAMS) for senior military officials in the region. This four-day seminar is starting on September 12 at the Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.
According to the US Embassy, the purpose of this seminar is to promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through mutual understanding, dialogue and friendship. In the seminar, the senior officers of the military forces will exchange their views and ideas with each other to strengthen their work flow and consensus.
The theme of this year’s seminar is ‘Possibilities and Challenges for Maintaining Peace and Security in the Indo-Pacific Region’. In addition to the plenary session of the seminar, participants will break into small groups to discuss specific aspects of the theme. Apart from this, the participants will listen to and participate in discussions from distinguished guest speakers on topics such as peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance/disaster relief distribution, leadership development and women’s empowerment.
Nine countries participated in the first seminar of IPAMS in 1977 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. 31 countries participated in the seminar held in Seoul, Korea in 2017. IPAMS provides a unique opportunity for participants to discuss security issues in the Indo-Pacific region and exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
