The cyber tribunal court of Rajshahi has sentenced a young man to 12 years rigorous imprisonment for the crime of cheating and embezzling huge amount of money under the guise of a senior law enforcement officer. At the same time, he was ordered to pay a fine of 10 lakh rupees, and in default of payment, one more year of imprisonment without labor. Judge Ziaur Rahman of the Rajshahi Cyber ​​Tribunal Court announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The name of the convicted accused is Mozaffar Hossain alias Rony (29). He is the son of Badsha Mia of Bhandapal village of Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district.
The verdict was announced in three separate sections of the Digital Security Act. In one of these sections five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of five lakh taka have been imposed. Another six months of unpaid imprisonment. In the other section four years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 3 lakh have been imposed. Another three months of unpaid imprisonment. Apart from this, another section of the Digital Security Act has given three years of rigorous imprisonment. A fine of two lakh rupees has been imposed. Another three months of unpaid imprisonment. After the announcement of the verdict, the State Counsel (PP) of the Rajshahi Cyber ​​Tribunal Court, Advocate Ismat Ara, confirmed this information to the journalists.
He said that this incident of fraud took place in January 2020. Accused Mozaffar Hossain Roni, through one of his accomplices, extorted a large sum of money from several people of Bagmara Upazila of Rajshahi by using Facebook and Messenger on the pretext of giving them a job in the army. After taking the money, he blocked the mobile numbers and Bikash numbers he was using. Later RAB-5 started investigation against this gang. They later arrested Mozaffar Hossain Roni from Hatirjheel area of ​​Dhaka. But Roni is absconding after being released on bail. In this incident, Deputy Inspector of RAB-5 Rezaul Karim filed a case under the Digital Security Act as the plaintiff. Yasin Ali was another accused in the case. However, after the investigation, the police accused Mozaffar Hossain Roni as the only accused and the court issued a charge sheet.
The verdict was announced on Thursday against the fugitive Roni as the charges brought after the testimony in the court were proved beyond doubt. The verdict also mentioned that after the expiry of the sentence of one, the other will come into effect. This lawyer of the tribunal said that after the verdict was announced, the judge of the court also ordered to issue an arrest warrant against Roni.
