The court sentenced 17 people including UP chairman SM Deen Islam to life imprisonment and a fine of five thousand taka to each of them in the double murder case of Khulna’s Terkhada upazila.
Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md. Nazrul Islam Howladar announced this verdict on Sunday. The court acquitted the other two defendants in the case as the charges against them were not proved. The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
According to the details of the case, on the night of August 6, 2019, Piru Sheikh of Pahardanga village of Terkhada upazila and his family fell asleep after having dinner. At around 2 am, the accused entered their house armed with indigenous weapons. Others close the door of the house from the outside.
At this time, the accused Abdur Rahman gave an order and said to kill Piru. I lost my job because of him.’ As soon as he said this, the accused Saiful hit Piru on the head with the chapati in his hand. Kope cuts his head bone and Ghilu comes out. Later, the other accused taunt Piru randomly. When Piru and his wife screamed, son Naim came to his father’s rescue from the next room and dragged him to the courtyard. At this time, the weapon pierced Naeem’s chest. Accused Habibur and Ziarul hit Naeem’s elbows and neck with chapatis while screaming in pain. Naim died on the spot.’
After the accused left, Piru Sheikh was rescued and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital and sent to Dhaka for better treatment. Piru died while undergoing treatment there.
Two days after the incident, the wife of the deceased Piru filed a case against 17 people and 12 others who were not named in Terkhada police station on the charge of killing her husband and children.
