Bangladesh’s ‘proven friend’ India, Sheikh Hasina praises Modi

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to visit India on September 5. Earlier he gave an interview to Indian news agency ANI. In the interview, Sheikh Hasina referred to India as a ‘proven’ friend of Bangladesh. He also praised the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sheikh Hasina lauded Modi for his leadership in rescuing students trapped in the Ukraine-Russia war and for providing the corona vaccine. Sheikh Hasina emphasized on close cooperation between the two neighbours.

He said there may be differences of opinion, but they should be resolved through discussion.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh also said, I really want to thank the Prime Minister, many of our students were trapped in the war between Russia and Ukraine and they took refuge in Poland. But when you rescued your students, you also brought our students back to the country. You have truly shown the warmth of friendship. I thank Prime Minister Modi for this initiative.

Besides, Sheikh Hasina praised the vaccine partnership program of the Indian government. He said it was a very ‘prudent’ initiative taken by Prime Minister Modi.

Regarding this, Sheikh Hasina said, I really thank Prime Minister Modi for this initiative. You know not only Bangladesh but some South Asian countries have given vaccine and it is really very, very helpful.

In the interview, Sheikh Hasina referred to India as a ‘tested’ friend and said that the country stood by Bangladesh in times of need. First in 1971 and later too.
