Since the establishment of Bangladesh-China diplomatic relations 45 years ago, the Chinese government has built eight bridges in Bangladesh under the ChinaAid framework. All these are known as Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge. Recently, the 8th Bangladesh-China friendship bridge was built on the Kancha river in Pirojpur with the financing of China.

Buriganga Bridge is a bridge built over the Buriganga River in Bangladesh. It is also known as the first Buriganga Bridge. It is jointly developed by Bangladesh and China. The bridge is 725 meters long. The construction of this bridge started in the 80s and was completed in 1989. The bridge was inaugurated that year.

The second bridge is the only corridor across the old Brahmaputra river in Mymensingh region. The Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge was built in 1990 on the Brahmaputra river flowing over the city of Mymensingh.

The third bridge is the main bridge built over the Mahananda River to transport mangoes from Chapainawabganj, the famous mango capital of Bangladesh. 448.3 meters long Bangladesh-China third friendship bridge was built on Mahananda river. The Mahananda Bridge was inaugurated on 23 June 1993.

The fourth bridge is the first road bridge over the Karatoa river in Panchagarh. In 1988, the 275-meter bridge was built over the Karatoa river at the entrance of Panchagarh district town. This bridge is the main means of communication between Panchagarh and other parts of the country.

The fifth bridge built over the Gabkhan channel in Jhalkathi. Built in 2002. The fifth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge, also known as the Gabkhan Bridge, has been constructed over the Gabkhan Channel. Thousands of vehicles pass through this bridge built at Jhalakathi on Barisal-Khulna highway every day. Besides, many visitors come to see this bridge. Gabkhan bridge is the highest among the many bridges in Bangladesh so far. Its standard height is 60 feet above water level.

The name of the sixth Bangladesh-China friendship bridge is Muktarpur Bridge. The construction of the 1521 meter long Muktarpur Bridge on the Dhaleshwari River on the Dhaka-Munshiganj road was completed in February 2008 with the aim of establishing a direct transportation system between Dhaka and Munshiganj districts. With the construction of the bridge, it is becoming possible to easily transport vegetables, fruits and other agricultural products from Munshiganj and its surrounding areas to Dhaka city.

About 700 meters long seventh Bangladesh-China friendship bridge was constructed on Arial Khan river at Kazirtek of Madaripur Sadar Upazila. China’s Anhui Construction Engineering Group started its construction in March 2013. Along with this, four more small bridges and a four and a half kilometer long approach road were constructed.
