As per custom, the judge was given a farewell reception today. At the reception, first Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, then Supreme Court Bar Association President Momtaz Uddin Fakir spoke about the career of Justice Krishna Debnath.

In the farewell reception, Justice Krishna Debnath said, his judicial life of 41 years. At this time, he has come to the belief that even though the independence of the judiciary is strictly implemented on paper, if a judge does not consider himself independent in his thoughts, actions and beliefs, then the independence of the judiciary is far away.

Justice Krishna Debnath also said, ‘On this last day of today, I want to depart from the judicial arena with the hope that a judge will complete the judicial work with the motto of being completely independent in the judicial process. And learned lawyers will cooperate with them in the interest of this institution.’

41 years of judicial life
On December 8, 1981, Krishna Debnath was appointed as a Munsafe (now Assistant Judge) in the Judicial Service. In 1992, his promotion from sub-judge to additional district judge was withheld during the tenure of the then government. The full court meeting of the Supreme Court recommended his promotion three times in a row. His name was at the top of the promotion list. Still he was not promoted.

At this time, senior lawyer Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed, Dr. Kamal Hossain and lawyer M Amir-ul Islam. And the then Attorney General Aminul Haque gave courage from the side. On their advice, the president and general secretaries of almost every district bar association wrote writs.
