A Dhaka court has ordered the trial of Monir Hossain alias Golden Monir in the Narcotics Control Act case.

Dhaka’s Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Chamidul Islam has set November 2 as the date for the commencement of testimony after forming a complaint against Monir in this case of Badda police station.

Salahuddin Howladar, the lawyer of the state in the tribunal, said that after Monir was brought to the court today, the complaint was heard in his presence. At that time, the lawyer of the accused claimed him innocent and applied for exemption from the case.

On the other hand, the state party heard in favor of framing the complaint. After the hearing of both sides, the judge rejected the plea of ​​acquittal of the accused and ordered the trial to begin by framing the complaint.

On January 26 last year, Inspector Abdul Malek, the investigating officer of the case, filed the charge sheet in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

On November 20, 2020, RAB surrounded Monir’s house at Badda in the capital. 600 pieces of gold jewelry, foreign pistols, liquor, a large amount of currency of 10 countries and cash of 1 crore 9 lakh taka were seized from that house by raiding till the morning of 21 November.

According to RAB, Golden Monir owns more than two hundred plots and flats in Dhaka and surrounding areas. He grabbed numerous plots with the connivance of some officials of Rajuk. Initially, Golden Monir admitted 30 plots and flats.

In these incidents, on November 22 of that year, RAB filed three separate cases against Monir under the Narcotics Control Act, Arms and Special Powers Act.
