The Democracy Forum has announced a rally program in Dhaka on September 16 to demand an end to the repression of opposition parties across the country. This decision was taken in a meeting at the Ganasanhati Andolan office in the capital’s Hatirpool on Wednesday morning.
The meeting was chaired by Jonaid Saki, the chief coordinator of the Mass Solidarity Movement, and the president of Nagrik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna, General Secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party Saiful Haque, Central Executive General Secretary of JSD Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, Member Secretary of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Habibur Rahman Riju, Senior Joint Convenor of Public Rights Council Rashed addressed the meeting. Khan and Habibur Rahman, the central leader of the state reform movement.
Also present in the meeting were Executive Coordinator of Mass Solidarity Movement Abul Hasan Rubel, Member of Political Council of Revolutionary Workers Party Bahni Shikha Jamali, Joint General Secretary of JSD Kamaluddin Patwari, Central Organizing Secretary of Nagarik Oikya Kabir Hasan, Central Leader of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Mahibullah Bahar, Political Council of Revolutionary Workers Party. Member Akbar Khan, Member of the Political Council of Mass Solidarity Movement Monir Uddin Pappu and others.
In the meeting, the leaders of Ganatantra Manch, consisting of seven parties and organizations, condemned and protested the suppression of opposition parties including BNP across the country. They said that the way the opposition party’s gatherings are being attacked across the country, the way the Awami League terrorists are conducting weapons drills and the houses of the opposition party leaders and activists are being attacked are manifestations of the government’s extreme repression policy. Basically, the government has chosen a policy of repression due to the fear of public anger after seeing the public tide. But no dictator could survive by attacking and torturing in this way. Even the present government will not be able to stop this wave of mass tide by filing assault cases like this.
In the meeting, the leaders expressed their determination to continue the struggle for the establishment of voting rights and democracy of the people of Bangladesh, ignoring all the obstacles. At the same time, he urged everyone to join the struggle regardless of party affiliation.
The leaders of Ganatantra Manch also said that in the last few days attacks on BNP are also being carried out on various organizations and gatherings of Ganatantra Manch. In Tangail’s Nagorpur, the leader of the mass solidarity movement, Abdul Alim Molla, was hacked and injured by the local thugs of the government party, 10-12 people including Riaz were injured in an attack on the solidarity rally of the state reform movement in Srimangal.
In addition, the meeting condemned and protested the recent attacks and hacking of Youth and People’s Rights Council leaders and activists in Natore, Laxmipur, Panchagarh, attacks on mass solidarity workers in Chittagong and Mirpur of Dhaka and obstruction of the gathering of Democracy Forum in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka.
