Before going to the Asia Cup, the message of being mentally strong was repeatedly heard in the Bangladesh team. No matter win or lose, everyone wanted to see that mentality that can fight with eyes on the opponent’s eyes.

But the opposite picture was seen in the first match against Afghanistan. Aggressive attitude and rhythm of the game were not captured at all. Team director Khaled Mahmud Sujan who was with the team was disappointed to see that. This director of BCB wants to change the mentality of the Bangladesh team.

Khaled Mahmud Sujan said before Bangladesh entered the field in the second match, ‘I am more disappointed because I did not see the change of mentality that we were talking about, about showing the intention. Don’t be too disappointed to lose. I can lose. Not so, we feel bad that we could not win as Bangladesh regularly wins in T20. I mean, if we want to win. The first condition to win, we do not comply with them.

The former cricketer also said, ‘We need to improve our batting. The biggest problem in our top order, the opening pair is not clicking at all. I hope whoever plays in the opening bats according to the plan they have. One of them might get out on the first ball, that’s fine, I’ll accept that. When we don’t see the intention, we suffer more. I want to see that intent. I want to see a change in mindset.’

Bangladesh did not start well in the Asia Cup. Shakib Al Hasan’s team lost their first match against Afghanistan. With two consecutive wins, the rhythmic Afghanistan have secured the first place in the last four from the ‘B’ group.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka’s points account is still empty. So tomorrow is the only chance to reach the last four of this duel. Bangladesh-Sri Lanka will meet in their second match tomorrow. The team that wins this match can go to the last four with the Afghans. Therefore, Shakib-Mushfiq must beat the Lankans anyway to go to the last four. Otherwise, Bangladesh’s mission in the Asia Cup will end tomorrow.
