57 officials of Bangladesh Bank have left their jobs. According to the bank, they have left the Central Bank to join other jobs including Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). Among those who resigned are a deputy director and an officer. The remaining 55 are assistant directors.

They resigned from the last day of March starting on Thursday. It is learned that most of these officials who left the job were working in various departments of the central bank’s head office. Besides, 3 people each were working in Khulna and Barisal office, 2 people in Sylhet office, 1 person each in Motijheel, Chittagong and Rangpur offices.

Why did you leave the job?
Once upon a time, many people left jobs like teaching in BCS, public universities and came to the central bank. But now it’s the other way around. According to experts, there is a growing tendency to leave Bangladesh Bank jobs due to frustration with the lack of autonomy of the central bank, reduced job opportunities. Several officials of the Central Bank of Bangladesh said that bank salaries are relatively high compared to any other job.

And, as the regulatory body of the banking sector, Bangladesh Bank had a system to encourage employment in various ways. Talents were given priority in all these fields. Also, four additional increments were given on the basis of academic results after joining as Assistant Director till 2018. But it was discontinued from AD batch of 2019. Many people are disappointed with this. That’s why so many people quit their jobs.

Growing frustration
Besides, if three years are completed before 2022, the officers would be eligible for promotion in the next step subject to the vacancy. Even if the post is vacant now, they don’t get promotion if it’s not 5 years. Officials said that earlier there was a 9-month foundation training after joining. Now that has been brought down to one to three months.

Again an additional increment was given if 80 percent marks were obtained in this training. That too is now closed. Due to these reasons, the bank officials are leaving for other government jobs including administration. Meanwhile, the ACC Service Association has informed that 15 people have left the ACC to join various cadre jobs.
