Five diplomatic documents have been signed between Thailand and Bangladesh. These include a contract, three memoranda of understanding and a letter of intent. Those concerned signed these documents in the presence of Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Thai Prime Minister’s Office Government House on Friday (April 26). Earlier, the Thai Prime Minister welcomed the Bangladesh Prime Minister with a grand ceremony. After the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Thailand has been offered to invest in a special economic zone in Bangladesh. A free trade agreement (FTA) will be signed with the country this year. He said, Thailand is a potential partner for Bangladesh. Efforts are being made to have direct seaport-based communication with the country. He met the King and Queen at the Amphorn Southern Throne Hall of Dusit Palace on Thursday (April 25) afternoon. During the meeting, they discussed skill exchange and various bilateral issues. Joined the 80th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) this morning. During his visit from 24 to 29 April, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh will hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of Thailand Thavisin. Bangladesh and Thailand will sign a number of cooperation documents, including letters of interest to negotiate a free trade agreement between the two countries. Bangladesh and Thailand may sign an agreement on visa exemption for government passport holders. Besides, the two countries are likely to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation, cooperation in the tourism sector and two other MoUs on mutual cooperation on customs to expand ties.
