Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Sretha Tavisin. An agreement, three memorandums of understanding and a letter of intent have been signed between the two countries.

Apart from this, three MoUs on mutual cooperation in energy, tourism and customs and a letter of intent to start negotiations on a free trade agreement were signed for visa exemption agreement for official passport holders.

The foreign minister also said that Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina called for Thai investment in 100 economic zones and IT villages of Bangladesh besides describing the development progress of Bangladesh. The prime minister also said that the businessmen of Thailand would make a special economic zone for them in Bangladesh if necessary.

During the meeting, Bangladesh has given shelter to about 1.3 million Rohingyas who were expelled from Myanmar. The problems that are happening in Bangladesh for them have been discussed in the meeting, said Dr. laugh

He said that many Rohingyas have taken refuge in Thailand. Many are still coming. Thailand is also burdened by these fleeing people. Both the Prime Ministers have expressed interest in working together between the two countries to solve this problem.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Thailand. Sheikh Hasina attended the 80th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok on Thursday. In his address there, the Prime Minister urged people to speak out against all forms of aggression and atrocities and say ‘no’ to war. After the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to return home on April 29.
