Dhaka: Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar. Md. Manowar Hossain said that Bangladesh has a multi-faceted and rich literature and a history to be proud of, which needs to be communicated to the new generation of Myanmar in order to enhance mutual understanding and common prosperity between the two friendly neighboring countries.

He said this while speaking at a book donation ceremony at the National Library in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar’s administrative capital, on Friday (April 26).

Myanmar’s Deputy Minister of Religion and Culture, Do Nyu Mya, was also present.

During the book handover ceremony, hundreds of books published on various topics including Bangladesh’s freedom struggle, economic development, history, language, art, culture, literary works, festivals, natural beauty, tourism, rural development were given to the library. Two large book shelves have also been donated to the library to display the books, which will be called the ‘No Bangladesh’ corner. As a token of the donation, the Ambassador formally handed over Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ‘Unfinished Autobiography’ and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘The Quest for Vision 2021’. This was the first book donation by the Bangladesh Embassy to the National Library of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw.

Ambassador Dr. Md. Manowar Hossain said in his speech that Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing economies in South Asia, which has a thousand-year-old history and culture. Dr. Hossain highlighted the significant achievements in the socio-economic field that made Bangladesh a role model for development in the world.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is on the right track to become a middle-income country by 2031 and a developed country by 2041. Ambassador Hussain emphasized on strengthening cultural ties along with economic development for inclusive and sustainable progress in all areas. He referred to ‘cultural exchange’ as an important element in building friendship and cooperative relations between the two countries based on mutual understanding, respect for cultural diversity.

The aim of the donation of books to the National Library of Myanmar by the Embassy is to strengthen bilateral relations, including political, economic and social relations through exchange of culture and knowledge, which will contribute to the stability and prosperity of the two countries in the long term. The ceremony was attended by the Director General of the Department of Cultural Affairs in Myanmar, the Director General of the Political Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the officials of Bangladesh Embassy, ​​Yangon. The embassy will also donate some books to the Yangon branch of the National Library of Myanmar soon.
