Labor leaders believe the new EU rules will improve labor rights. They said that the provision will be effective not only in Bangladesh, but in all countries that supply products. As a result, labor standards will improve wherever EU companies source their products. Although labor rights have improved in some areas since the Rana Plaza collapse, there are still barriers to trade union registration and practice.
Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity Executive Director Kalpana Akhter Prothom-aloK said, ‘A lot depends on how the provision will be implemented. But we may need to make some new laws.
