Bangladesh Poultry Association said that due to the ongoing heat wave that started after Eid-ul-Fitr, about one lakh chickens are dying every day across the country due to heatstroke, with an estimated cost of Tk 20 crore. If this situation continues, there may be a crisis in the supply of broiler chickens and eggs in the coming days.

Thursday (April 25) the president of the organization of poultry farmers. The notification signed by Suman Howladar informed this and sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to deal with the crisis.

According to the notification, poultry farmers are now facing both crises.

Due to the shortage of chicks, the farmers have to buy chicken chicks with a production cost of 28 to 30 rupees at double the price of 80 to 90 rupees.

On the other hand, about one lakh chickens are dying every day across the country due to heat stroke as a result of the ongoing heat wave. Under these dire conditions, egg and chicken production declined significantly, ranging from 4 to 10 percent. ‘

The Poultry Association claimed that more than 1 million broiler, layer and golden chickens died in the last 10-12 days after Eid. 80 percent of these were broiler chickens.

Suman said, ‘The total loss amount will be 200 crore taka. If this situation continues, the farms will close; Egg and chicken production will decrease. Capitalizing on this opportunity, corporate egg and chicken suppliers and the Tejgaon-based egg syndicate will create a shortage of eggs and chicken. ‘

‘From June they will start raising prices. From August to October, the price of eggs and chicken will increase drastically’, alleged Suman.

Urging the government to protect the poultry farmers from this situation, he said, ‘The government should keep the farmers in production by subsidizing chicken chicks and poultry feed, and keep the supply chain in order – so that there is no crisis in the market. ‘
