Five more deaths in the heat

People’s life has become disrupted due to intense heat. The people of 45 districts passed another hot day of the current season on Thursday along with the heat wave. In this situation, a three-day ‘heat alert’ of the Meteorological Department has been going on all over the country since yesterday. The ongoing heat wave may continue. During this time, discomfort will also increase due to the excess of water vapor. The temperature will not rise much in the next three days, nor will the heat drop much. However, after this heat wave, meteorologists expect that rain may start little by little. Even if it rains at the beginning of next month, there is doubt about how much the temperature will decrease. In this situation, prayers are being offered in different parts of the country by praying for rain to save from the heat. Meteorological Department says, this April is the warmest in last 30 years.

The highest temperature recorded in the country so far this pre-monsoon season is 42.6 degrees Celsius. Yesterday the highest temperature of the country was recorded in Jessore – 42.4 degrees Celsius. And the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 39.1 degrees Celsius. North-western districts of Bangladesh are experiencing high temperatures now. Khulna recorded the highest temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius in 25 years yesterday.

Warmest April

According to the Department of Meteorology, the temperature in Dhaka this April is four to five degrees Celsius higher than the average for the same period of the last 30 years. Meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir said that April is the hottest month in Bangladesh. But this April is going to be the hottest since independence.

AKM Nazmul Haque, meteorologist of Meteorological Department, said that due to high humidity, the temperature is four to five degrees higher than the actual temperature. The average temperature of a place on a particular date is calculated by averaging the temperature over 30 years.

The average temperature in Dhaka city yesterday was 33.7 degrees Celsius. However, 39.1 degrees Celsius was recorded. The highest temperature recorded in the country on the same day was 42.4 degrees Celsius, while the average temperature was 36 degrees Celsius.

Experts say the heat wave has been triggered by El Nino, which is currently affecting the south and southeast and will continue till the end of this month.
In charge of Khulna Meteorological Office. Amirul Azad said that the temperature in Khulna is increasing day by day and the duration of heatstroke has also increased.

Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick said, analyzing the characteristics of the previous year, it appears that the year 2024 will go as a hot year. We are going to have more heat wave days and rates this year.

As April is the hottest month, the country’s temperature is always higher than normal at this time, Director of the Directorate Azizur Rahman said, this is not unusual. The feeling of heat has increased due to two consecutive weeks of heat wave and rainless conditions. The amount of water vapor is high, due to which the discomfort is increased. Temperatures are rising 4 to 7 degrees higher than what should be normal in different areas.
