India is eyeing possible joint military exercises between Bangladesh and China. Chinese news agency Xinhua and People’s Daily reported that the exercise is likely to take place in May.

China’s Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday (April 25) citing the Ministry of National Defense that the armies of China and Bangladesh will hold joint military exercises. According to the Chinese ministry, a contingent of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will go to Bangladesh in early May to participate in joint exercises based on the consent of both sides.

When reporters in Delhi drew attention to the issue, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India always keeps an eye on such exercises in neighboring countries or elsewhere.

In this regard, Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian said, according to the consensus between the Chinese and Bangladeshi military forces, the PLA army will send a team to Bangladesh for the joint military exercise called ‘Golden Friendship-2024’ with the Bangladeshi army in the first half of May.

Thursday afternoon at the regular press conference Chinese spokesperson. Wu Qian said the joint exercise will take the UN peacekeeping force’s counter-terrorism operations as a model, and emphasize anti-kidnapping and eliminating terrorist hideouts.

He also said that the Chinese and Bangladeshi military forces are going to organize such an exercise to conduct joint training for the first time. It will strengthen mutual understanding and friendship and deepen exchanges and cooperation.
