Mymensingh: On May 8, the first phase of polling for the 150 upazila parishad elections will be held. The party has sent show-cause notices to nine leaders of the BNP and its affiliates for disobeying the party’s decision in Mymensingh’s Haluaghat, Dhobaura and Phulpur upazilas.

BNP leaders and workers have created uproar inside and outside.

Mymensingh North District BNP member secretary Motahar Hossain Talukdar confirmed this information to Banglanews on Thursday (April 25) afternoon.

Earlier on Wednesday (April 24), the condolence letter was sent to the candidate leaders in a letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Also, BNP leader Motahar Hossain Talukder said that no organizational action will be taken against them, and they have been instructed to submit a written reply within the next 48 hours.

The mourned leaders are Upazila BNP member Abdul Hamid, candidate for the post of chairman in the Haluaghat upazila council election, advocate Hasnat Tarek, member of the Dhaka Lawyers Forum, vice-chairman candidate for the post of North District Mahila Dal, vice-president Monowara Begum Maina, co-cottage industry affairs secretary Sumi Begum and former Chhatra Dal leader. ABM Kajal government, ex-vice president of upazila BNP Shamchur Rashid Majnu, candidate for the post of chairman in Dhobaura upazila, member of upazila BNP Farid Al Razi Kamal, joint general secretary of the post of vice chairman of North District Jubo Dal Jahangir Alam Khan and former general secretary of the post of chairman in Phulpur upazila. Emran Hossain Pallab.

Several BNP leaders and activists said on condition of anonymity that the party’s discipline has collapsed due to the lack of organizational structure of the party for years. Due to this, many people have got the opportunity to disobey the party decision and run for the upazila elections. The party and Trinamool are suffering extremely.

When asked about the candidature, Haluaghat Upazila BNP member Abdul Hamid told Banglanews, “My party is not going to the BNP elections.” But I am in the election field individually and will be till the end. Even before this, I had resigned from the party and became a candidate in the previous municipal elections.

In this context, Dhobaura upazila candidate Shamchur Rashid Majnu said, some say BNP will go to the elections, some say it won’t and some say it’s a strategy of the party. But I do not borrow from the party. I have suffered a lot, served jail time, been a victim of lawsuits and attacks. But currently many people like me have no value in the team, now many people are selling the team. So I am choosing, even if I am expelled from the party because of this, I have no regrets because I also consider the expulsion order from the party as a ‘post or designation’. I was elected UP Chairman twice and was Chairman for 14 consecutive years. Now I am contesting for the post of Chairman of Upazila Parishad. People are with me, I hope if the election is fair I will win hundred percent.

However, BNP’s decision not to go to the election is seen as a strategy by Phulpur Upazila Parishad chairman candidate and BNP leader. Emran Hossain Pallab. He told BanglaNews that BNP’s decision of not going to the election is correct but I have become a candidate in the election. Because if we are not candidates, important institutions like Upazila Parishad will go to Awami League. Hope the team doesn’t drop me, and if they do, then we’ll see.
