The fourth national folk music festival is starting from Friday in Chittagong.

Various aspects of this festival were highlighted in a press conference at Chittagong Press Club on Thursday afternoon.

With the slogan ‘Wake up Bangladesh against communalism and class discrimination’, the festival will be held in Chittagong Shilpakala Academy premises. About 600 artists from all over the country including 32 teams and solo artists from all over the country will participate in it.

In the press conference, the convener of the 4th National Mass Music Festival celebration committee and the president of Samilit Sanskultur Jot, author and researcher Golam Kudduch said, “The National Mass Music Festival has been organized in Dhaka three times before. If everything is done in other parts of the country instead of Dhaka, all the people can be reached.

“This is the first time that the National Folk Music Festival is being organized outside Dhaka. That’s why we chose Chittagong.”

As long as there is class discrimination, the rights of all people will not be established; Commenting on the need for mass music until then, Golam Kudduch said, “It was said that people of all classes, professions, castes and religions will live with equal rights in a free country. There will be no discrimination of caste and religion. There will be no class discrimination.

“For that purpose, four principles were adopted in the constitution of seventy-two. After the assassination of the father of the nation in 1975, that journey stopped. Then we had and are going through many difficult paths. How possible is the implementation of Bengali, Bengali, Bengali culture and the ideals of the liberation war in the state where the rules and regulations have to be followed in the celebration of Bengali New Year? We have to stand against communal forces.”

Golam Kudduch said, “Maybe no one has eaten today. The number of extreme poor may have decreased. But class discrimination is increasing. We must fight to reduce inequality and establish rights for all. Cultural activists stood firm during many difficult times in the past including ’52, ’71. Our struggle continues today. We have to stand against the marauding classes and communal evil forces.”

In a written speech at the press conference, Manzar Chowdhury Sweet, general secretary of Bangladesh Mass Music Coordination Council, said, “135 artists will perform the national anthem and the opening mass song in the opening phase.

Lalon Saiji’s song, Kazi Nazrul Islam’s song of equality, Abdul Latif’s song of anti-imperialism, Dwijendralal Roy-Rajinikanth Sen and Atul Prasad’s country song, anti-racism song, anti-communal song, Fakir Alamgir’s song, Bhupenika’s song, category- Songs of struggle and contemporary issues, Ajit Roy’s songs, Hemang Biswas’ songs, Shah Abdul Karim’s songs, Farmers’ movement songs, Sheikh Lutfar Rahman’s songs, Salil Chowdhury’s songs, Chakma language folk songs, Language movement songs, Akhtar Hussain and Salim Raza’s songs, Garo songs, Folk music groups from different parts of the country will perform songs dedicated to Bangabandhu, songs of Mukund Das, songs of liberation war, country songs of Rabindranath Tagore, songs of people in the language of Chittagong region and songs of Ashok Sengupta.
