The Meteorological Department has issued a new heat wave warning or ‘heat alert’, saying that the ongoing heat wave over the country may continue for the next 72 hours from Thursday.

A heat alert has been issued for the fourth time in the current season in the country for the last few days.

According to the Meteorological Department, this fire is spreading over about 45 districts in different degrees.

The agency says mild to intense heat waves moving over the country may continue, adding to the discomfort due to excess water vapor.

The temperature will not rise much in the next three days, although the heat will not drop much. However, after this heat wave, the Meteorological Department expects that rain may start little by little.

In Bangladesh, a warning is usually issued when the temperature exceeds 36 degrees Celsius.

If the temperature is below 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, it is called a mild heat wave by meteorologists.

Also, if the temperature is between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, it is called moderate and between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius, it is called severe heat wave.

And if the temperature rises above 42 degrees Celsius, then it is called extreme heat wave.

In Bangladesh, a very intense heat wave is seen over some districts of South Western region including Jessore, Chuadanga and Pabna for the past few days.

In the last 24 hours, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Mongla, 41.6 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists earlier described the year 2023 as the hottest year in Bangladesh. That year the heatwave was recorded for three consecutive weeks.

As a result, Bangladesh is going through almost the same kind of violence for two consecutive years.

It will rain, but when?
Although a fresh three-day hill alert has been issued, the Meteorological Department expects the trend of rainfall to increase in the Northeast from the end of this week.

There is a possibility of rain in Sylhet and Chittagong region since 29th. But from what is seen so far, there is a fairly good chance of rain at the beginning of next month,’ said meteorologist Bajlur Rashid to BBC Bangla.

Things to do in summer
Although it has rained since the end of this week, there is doubt as to how much the temperature will drop. Because usually when the rain starts from the east, it does not reduce the heat much.

Meteorologist Bajlur Rashid says that when the rain starts from the western region, it starts cooling the weather quickly but this time the rain may start from Sylhet and Chittagong region.

‘As a result, the heat will not decrease very quickly. But it can be said that the temperature will not rise any more,’ he said.

How will the next three days go from today
The Meteorological Department says that from this Thursday morning, there may be temporary rain with gusty wind or thunder in two places in Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.

At the same time, scattered hail may occur at some places.

Today severe heat wave is flowing over Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur and Gopalganj districts along with Khulna division.

Apart from this, the mild to moderate heat wave is likely to continue over Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban districts and some areas of Barisal, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions.

warning
On the second day of the heat alert i.e. Friday and on the third day Saturday also there is a possibility of rain, thunderstorm or hail in some places of Sylhet division.

However, in the first two days from today, the day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain unchanged, but on the third day, the day temperature may rise slightly across the country. But the night temperature will remain almost unchanged.

In three days the discomfort due to water vapor will remain, ie the heat will not decrease much.

However, after this three-day heat wave, there is a possibility of rainfall in the north-eastern part of the country, which the meteorologists expect to increase by the first week of next month.

What is the reason for this temperature?
By reviewing the data of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, it can be seen that the north-western districts of Bangladesh are now experiencing high temperatures.

According to meteorologists, the location of Indian states such as West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh etc. is towards that region of Bangladesh.

The temperature in these provinces is very high. The temperature in these places fluctuates between 42 and 48 degrees Celsius during this time of the year.

“Since they are hot regions, the hot air from there enters Bangladesh through Chuadanga, Jessore, Kushtia, Rajshahi and it warms our temperature,” meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick told BBC Bengal recently.

In addition to global climate change, the movement of these intercontinental winds and the increase in temperature at the local level are expected to cause heat waves across the country this year.

“Analyzing the characteristics of past years, it appears that 2024 will go down as a hot year. We are going to have more heat wave days and rates this year,’ said Abul Kalam Mallick.
