University of Dhaka: There is a complaint against the students for not following the rules in using the swimming pool in Dhaka University. However, the people concerned have not taken any action to resolve this long-standing irregularity.
Recently, Mohammad Sohad Haque, a first year student of the university’s philosophy department, fell into the swimming pool and died. After his death, students complained about mismanagement in the swimming pool.
According to the sources of the physical education center of the university, two times are allocated for swimming training from 10 am to 11 am and 11 am to 12 pm. During this time the coaches teach swimming to the students and outsiders admitted. However, in 2019, after Daksur’s application, the swimming team and students of the university were allotted time after 12 pm. There is no swimming coach at this time. However, those concerned perform the duty of lifeguards.
Two banners containing the rules are posted at the gates of the swimming pool. There are several guidelines including showering before entering the pool, wearing a swimming costume, no spitting, no smoking, no swimming without a coach or experienced helper, ticketed entry, no diving or jumping into the pool, obeying the instructions of the life guards. .
However, after talking to several lifeguards and employees of the swimming pool, it is known that the students do not care about these rules. As a result, there is always a risk of accidents.
Mostafiz, the employee in charge of the swimming pool, told BanglaNews that students are not allowed to jump, get into the pool without bathing, swim in heavy clothes – they do not obey these rules. We have one here with a hand mic and the others whistle. But no one listens. bullies us.
Ilyach, the security guard at the gate of the swimming pool, told Banglanews that you have to enter the gate with a card. But students do none of these things. Many enter by showing the hall’s t-shirt. Brings 30-40 people. We have nothing to do. Some bring outsiders.
Another employee Ahmad Ali told BanglaNews that if one side is banned, he jumps to the other side. Nobody listens.
Even though the irregularities have been going on for the past five years, the swimming pool officials have not filed any complaint with the proctor’s office. As a result, there was no solution even though it lasted for a long time. The director of the physical education center of the university looked at the overall issue of the swimming pool. Shahjahan Ali He could not give any specific information about how many lifeguards are on duty there according to the shift, how many employees are in charge of the entire swimming pool. However, he said, many of our employees work as lifeguards because the students are extra.

Proctor Maksudur Rahman said that extra students entered the swimming pool by breaking the rules. There is extra time after certain shifts. However, no complaint has been made to us regarding irregularities.
Talking to several students, it is known that students break the rules, but the officials have no idea about it. Students have been seeing this for a long time. As a result, they themselves have become accustomed to irregularity.

Naim, a student of Vijay Ekatar Hall, said that everyone can go inside if they insist a little. Anyone who does not know how to swim also enters.
University proctor Maksudur Rahman said that the swimming pool will be closed for an indefinite period until these irregularities are fixed.
He said, we will fix all the rules and start swimming again. Until then the pool will be closed indefinitely.
In this regard, the treasurer of the university and president of the swimming pool managing committee, Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed told Banglanews, “I am out of the country, but we have held a meeting today at 5 o’clock Bangladesh time to know the overall situation. The way students are entering the swimming pool cannot be allowed to continue.
He said, we do not get any government allocation for the pool. The capacity of a place cannot be controlled once it is exceeded. There students enter in excess of capacity. Employees are no longer in control. We will see how to use it within the rules.
