On the occasion of the general and by-elections of 25 Union Parishads and by-elections of 2 municipalities of the country, scheduled banks and their branches and sub-branches in the respective areas will be closed next Sunday (April 28).

The Department of Offsite Supervision (DOS) of Bangladesh Bank informed this in a circular on Wednesday (April 24).

According to the notification of the Public Administration Ministry on April 23, general elections will be held in 19 unions of Lakshmipur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Patuakhali, Barguna, Satkhira, Brahmanbaria and Cox’s Bazar districts on April 28. Besides, by-elections will be held for vacant chairman posts of 6 unions of Rangpur, Bagerhat, Narail, Jhenaidah, Munshiganj and Chittagong districts.

Apart from this, elections will be held for the vacant post of Mayor of Jaldhaka in Nilphamari district and Katakhali municipality in Rajshahi district. On the occasion of the election, a general holiday has been declared in the respective constituencies on the polling day.

In this situation, Bangladesh Bank has decided to close all the branches or sub-branches including the regional offices of the scheduled banks located in the respective electoral areas on the day of the election.

Besides, the central bank said that an instruction in this regard has been sent to the managing directors and chief executive officers of practically all scheduled banks in the country.
