Strict action in case of irregularities: EC Anichur Rahman

Election Commissioner (EC) Anichur Rahman said that strict action will be taken if there is any kind of irregularity in the Upazila Parishad elections like the national elections. He said this at the discussion meeting organized with law enforcement and field administration officials on the sixth upazila parishad election at PTI Bhavan in Chittagong on Wednesday morning.

EC said that everyone will see how the elections are conducted under the new government. There are no party candidates in this election like the national parliament election. Party symbols are not given. So the election will be competitive. Hope the number of voters will also increase.

EC said, in the 53-year history of Bangladesh, the candidature has never been cancelled. The candidature was canceled 15 minutes before the end of polling in Chittagong-16 constituency because there were elements to be cancelled. I will not hesitate to take any decision during the Upazila Parishad elections.

Anichur said to the officials, we have only one demand, we have to make the election beautiful. The presiding officer can take action wherever there is any irregularity, rigging or wrongdoing. Because the presiding officer will perform all the duties of the center. He can stop the election if he wants. Wherever you are on the polling day, exercise all power. If there is any possibility of danger, we are on your side. Starting from the head of government, no one wants the elections to go badly.
