According to the holiday rescheduling notification, Rajshahi University’s summer vacation was scheduled for May 5 to 9 and June 16 to 24 Eid-ul-Azhar vacation. But due to the ongoing heatwave, the holidays have been rescheduled considering the fear of water shortage and various difficulties faced by the students. University classes and examinations will be closed from June 9 to 27 and offices from June 9 to 25 during the rescheduled vacation. Classes and exams will resume as usual from June 30. Apart from this, the decision to close classes on May 2 was withdrawn in an emergency meeting on April 21. Departments can conduct online teaching activities till June 6 if deemed necessary.
There is a wide discussion on the social media Facebook about this decision of the administration. Many of the teachers and students are giving various arguments for and against in different groups and their own Facebook timeline. Aphroditi Zaman, a student of political science department, wrote on the Facebook group of the university’s teacher-student platform ‘Rajshahi University Family’, ‘Due to severe winter in Rajshahi, the administration has canceled the summer vacation of Rajshahi University…!’ A person named Mohammad Raofil wrote, ‘Is it a good decision at all? Summer vacation after summer is over!’
