The meeting of the Vice Chairman of the Provincial Congress of China with the Deputy Speaker

Dhaka, April 24, 2024 (BASS): Wei Xiaoming, Vice Chairman of China’s Anhui Provincial People’s Congress, today met the Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament. Shamsul met Haque Tuku in his office.
During the meeting, they discussed development of bilateral relations, expansion of trade and repatriation of Rohingyas.
Deputy Speaker said that China is one of Bangladesh’s development partners. China’s role in infrastructural development including construction of electric plants, roads and communications, bridges and railways in Bangladesh is commendable.
Noting China’s expertise in renewable energy, the Deputy Speaker sought China’s cooperation in investing more in solar and agricultural technology in Bangladesh.
He said that many products including clothes made in Bangladesh have a good reputation all over the world, China can import those products from Bangladesh. Duty-free access to more Bangladeshi goods in the Chinese market is needed to balance trade between the two countries.
On the Rohingya issue, Shamsul Haque Tuku said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s policy is ‘friendship with everyone, not enmity with anyone.’ His privileged daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set a unique example of humanity by allowing a large part of the Rohingya community forcibly expelled from Myanmar to settle in Bangladesh. China needs a strong role in the peaceful repatriation of the Rohingya community to their homeland.
Mentioning Bangladesh as one of the most important friendly countries, the Vice Chairman of China said that cooperation between the two neighboring countries will continue in matters related to mutual interests. Under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has a good investment environment. We are keen to invest more. He also commented that China’s role in solving the Rohingya problem of friendly Bangladesh is always positive.
