Essay on “Constitution of Bangladesh and its Governance Structure” was presented by United International University (UIU) School of Business and Economics.

The program organized at the UIU campus on Tuesday (April 23) was part of the ‘Bangladesh Corpus: Public Lecture Series-2024’.

Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, former Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh and former Finance Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh, presented the keynote speech at the event. Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of UIU presided over. Hamidul Haque.

Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury delivered an insightful analysis of various important aspects of the Constitution of Bangladesh and its governance structure in the lecture. His presentation emphasized on the constitution and basic concept of constitution, historical background of constitution of Bangladesh, fundamental principles enshrined in constitution of Bangladesh including democracy, nationalism and secularism. He noted how policies guide governance structures and are integral to maintaining the rule of law and ensuring government accountability.

In the article he sheds light on the separation of powers between the executive, legislative and judicial branches. He also discussed the importance of this separation to prevent concentration of power and ensure a balanced governance structure responsive to citizens’ needs.

He highlighted the major milestones of reforms to address the challenges faced by the governance system and the need for continuous reforms to address emerging issues related to good governance. He also advocated strong institutional frameworks to strengthen democratic governance and uphold constitutional mandates. Heads of various departments of the university, teachers, officials and students were present on the occasion.
