In the current pre-monsoon season, the highest temperature recorded in the country so far is 42.6 degrees Celsius. At the same time, due to more humidity in the air, the temperature is felt to be four to five degrees higher.

AKM Nazmul Haque, Meteorologist of the Department of Meteorology said, “Because of the high humidity, the temperature is felt four to five degrees higher than the actual temperature.”

Experts say that the average temperature of a place on a particular date is calculated by averaging the temperature over 30 years.

The average temperature of Dhaka city on April 22 was 33.7 degrees Celsius. But on April 22 this year, the temperature reached 37.8 degrees Celsius, more than four degrees Celsius above the average.

On the same day, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 40.6 degrees Celsius in Jessore, Khulna and Chuadanga. The average temperature of the districts is 35.7, 34.7 and 36 degrees Celsius. That is, yesterday the temperature in Khulna was 5.9 degrees Celsius higher than the average, Jessore 4.9 degrees Celsius and Chuadanga 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Last April 21, Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature of this year at 42.6 degrees Celsius. However, the average temperature of this day in the district is 37.5 degrees Celsius.

The 72-hour ‘heat alert’ issued by the Meteorological Department due to heat wave ends tomorrow morning. Meteorologists say the heat wave may continue till the end of this month.

Experts say the heatwave is due to the effects of El Nino, which is currently affecting the south and southeast and will continue till the end of this month.

Professor Rashed Chowdhury, Senior Global Futures Scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University in the United States, said, “The temperature is increasing as El Nino reverses to La Nina and this year may be the warmest on record.”

Rashed Chowdhury said during El Nino, the monsoon winds weaken, the surface waters of the Pacific become warmer and the easterly winds become weaker than normal.

He also said that the effect of El Niño will soon be gone and the sea and wind behavior will be reversed.

The effects of El Nino and La Nina in the Pacific Ocean can affect global weather.
