There is no seat allocation in the halls of Chittagong University (CHB) for 7 years. The administration has failed to implement the allocation despite announcing it in stages. However, the newly appointed Assistant Proctor of the University’s Proctoral Body, Associate Professor Helal Uddin Ahmad of the Department of International Relations has assured about the allocation of seats in the halls.

After taking charge as assistant proctor on Tuesday, April 23, he said that seats have not been allocated in the halls of the university for a long time. We will work on the issue of seat allocation for general students to restore order.

He further said that since there is no seat allocation in the halls for a long time, a chaotic situation can be observed throughout the university. We will work to restore order in the university. I will also look into bringing the university to an international standard.

It is known that seats were allocated in the university’s residential hall last in June 2017. Then in March 2019, the then Vice-Chancellor Dr. Administration of Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury. About five thousand students bought the application form. However, three months after the publication of the notification, when the term of the then vice-chancellor ended, the professor got the responsibility of the vice-chancellor. Last year, on February 28 and September 24, outsiders and non-students were ordered to leave the hall. At that time, it was said from the administration that if the non-students leave the hall within 15 days, initiatives will be taken to allocate seats. But the administration could not implement that initiative. Not a single student left the hall.

According to the university data, the number of students in the university is 27 thousand 550 people. Among them, 17 thousand 494 students and 10 thousand 46 female students. There are 14 halls. The construction of two of these has been completed but students have not yet been picked up. Out of the remaining 12 halls, 7 are for male students and the remaining five are for female students. If these total seats are more than 6 thousand. Which is only 19 percent of the total students.

According to university sources, there are 632 seats in Amanat Hall, 509 seats in Shah Abdur Rab Hall, 475 seats in Shahjalal Hall, 375 seats in Suhrawardy Hall, 260 seats in Alaol Hall, 257 seats in AF Rahman Hall and 176 seats in Masterda Suryasen Hall.

Among the student halls, there are 750 seats in Jannetri Sheikh Hasina Hall, 531 seats in Pritilta Hall, 508 seats in National Leader Begum Khaleda Zia Hall, 481 seats in Shamsunnahar Hall, and 39 seats in Masterda Suryasen Hall (partially).

Incidentally, on April 21, the president of the oceanography department, Prof. Dr. Ahidul Alamke. In continuation of this, the proctorial body was completed by appointing 5 assistant proctors on 23 April.

The new assistant proctor in charge is, Associate Professor of Oceanography Department. Enamul Haque, Associate Professor of Sanskrit Department. Liton Mitra, Assistant Professor Helal Uddin Ahmed, Department of International Relations, Assistant Professor Rontu Dash, Department of History and Assistant Professor Rifat Rahman, Department of Banking and Insurance.
