When a Muslim dies, it becomes obligatory on another Muslim to perform the bath, shroud, funeral, funeral procession and burial of the deceased. These tasks need to be performed quickly when someone dies. Special importance has been given in the hadith.
In a hadith, the Messenger of Allah, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, addressed Hazrat Ali, saying, ‘O Ali! Don’t delay in three things. 1. When the time for prayer comes, do not delay in offering the prayer. 2. When the funeral of the deceased arrives, do not delay in completing the burial. 3. An unmarried girl should not delay marrying a girl when she finds a suitable husband.’ -(Tirmidhi 1/206)
Bathing the deceased is an obligatory kifaya. When a person dies, if it is obligatory for him to take a bath, how should the deceased be bathed? Inquiring about such a situation, one asked—
A man died a few days ago while performing ablution. So according to a local sage, he was given a bath twice. I want to know, if someone dies while a bath is obligatory, is it necessary to give him a bath twice?’
The views of Islamic law and jurisprudence scholars are as follows:
If a person dies while Ghusl is obligatory, there is no rule to perform Ghusl twice. Rather, it is customary to bathe once in the Sunnah manner like other dead persons. Ata rah. said-
If
If someone dies while Ghusl is obligatory or a menstruating woman dies (in the case of Ghusl), their provision is the same as for other dead (i.e. they have to perform Ghusl only once). (Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaiba, narration 11126)
So it is not right to give the deceased a second bath.
