The President has asked for Qatar’s investment in the Special Economic Zone

The President urged Qatari investors to invest in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Bangladesh. Sahabuddin

He made this call during a courtesy meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who is visiting Dhaka at Bangabhaban today (April 23).

Acknowledging Qatar as a valuable development partner of Bangladesh in the Gulf region, the President said the Amir’s visit and the 10 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed between the two countries will further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in the coming days.

The President said that the Government of Bangladesh has established 100 Special Economic Zones for foreign investment. Qatari investors can get massive incentives and help in some sectors like petro-chemicals, energy, machineries, information-technology, electronics, ceramics, agri-business, food processing.

President Sahabuddin expressed his gratitude to the government of Qatar for providing employment opportunities to about 3.75 million Bangladeshis and said that this manpower is constantly contributing to the socio-economic development of both Qatar and Bangladesh. He urged the Emir of Qatar to recruit more young, skilled and semi-skilled manpower, IT experts, professional technicians.

Thanking the government of Qatar for providing liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh, the President sought long-term energy support from Qatar and emphasized on both sides playing a more effective role in exploiting trade and business potential.

The President also praised Qatar’s efforts (along with Egypt and the US) to facilitate ongoing talks between Israel and Hamas.

The Emir of Qatar praised the socio-economic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He assured that in the days to come, all necessary assistance to Bangladesh will continue.

The Emir of Qatar said that the various agreements and memorandums of understanding signed by Qatar and Bangladesh will play a more effective role in the development of bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views and expressed happiness that the visit will pave the way for further strengthening the multi-faceted partnership between Bangladesh and Qatar.

In the meeting, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. Hasan Mahmud, Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Foreign Secretary and concerned secretaries of Banga Bhavan were present.

Meanwhile, the Qatari delegation included – Chief of the Amiri Dewan Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan Bin Saad Al-Muraikhi and Ambassador of Qatar to Bangladesh Seraya Bin Ali Al-Qahtani.

After the meeting, Aamir also took part in the photo session. He also signed the visitors book.
