Barisal: It was reported in a workshop that the rate of child labor has increased due to the large number of poor people in Barisal.

On Tuesday (April 23) at 12 noon, a workshop on child labor organized by the Ministry of Labor and Employment in collaboration with UNICEF was held in the conference room of Circuit House.

Barisal Divisional Administration, Directorate of Factory and Establishment Inspection and Directorate of Labor implemented this workshop.

Secretary Mahbub Hossain said that child labor will be brought to zero quota by 2025. 800 crore project has been approved to fulfill this goal. Once that project is launched, our scope will increase. Through this we will proceed to achieve the goal. Prime Minister cannot do everything alone. He will give the policy, we all will implement it together.

Mahbub Hossain also said that the rate of child labor in Barisal is 7.3 percent. Nationally, child labor rate is 6.8%. The rate of child labor has increased due to the high number of poor people in Barisal. The feedback received in today’s workshop will be used to work at a faster pace.

The workshop was also attended by Jahangir Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Hajera Khatun, Joint Secretary, Shahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Barisal and Anwar Hossain, UNICEF’s Chief Field Officer of Barisal, and representatives of various NGOs.

In the event, people from different professions gave advice and open discussion on ending child labour. At this time, instructions were given to take effective steps to implement the Child Act at the field level.
