Dead elephant recovered from side of Mymensingh highway

Forest department officials recovered a dead elephant from the side of the highway in Rajendrapur Bhawal National Park area of ​​Gazipur.

Rubia Islam, Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer of Dhaka’s Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department, said that the elephant was lying dead in the park’s Gate No. 2 area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Tuesday morning.

He said, “In the morning, the park officials saw the dead elephant lying and informed us. The matter was immediately reported to the higher officials. Later the police was informed.”

He said, when he came to the scene, he found that the dead elephant had wounds on its head, and its teeth had been taken away. Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer said, “After collecting the information, the police forensic team will conduct the post-mortem jointly with a veterinary surgeon and a veterinary surgeon from the University of Agriculture. Then the real cause of the elephant’s death will be known.”

“However, we initially believe that this dead elephant was brought here from somewhere else and dumped. After investigation, legal action will be taken in this regard.”

Assistant Forest Conservator of Dhaka Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department. Mozammel Hossain said, “The dead elephant will be five to six years old. It was a male elephant. The post-mortem of the elephant was done on the spot near the National Park in the afternoon.

Professor Golam Haider of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University and Veterinary Surgeon of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park. Mostafizur Rahman jointly completed the autopsy.”
After the post-mortem, the elephant was buried in the Ghazari forest nearby, he said.

Mostafizur Rahman, veterinary surgeon of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, said that the elephant died due to liver dysfunction.
