In protest against the beating of two doctors, the admission of patients in the private hospital of Chittagong has been stopped since Tuesday morning. Also, the diagnostic services at the diagnostic center are closed. The patients suffered greatly.

Chittagong branch of Bangladesh Medical Association-BMA has announced to stop all services from 6 am to 24 hours on Tuesday.

It has been found that the patients who went for examination in different diagnostic centers of the city are being sent back. Doctors have also stopped providing services in private chambers.

The press release of BMA Chittagong branch informed that this program is being carried out according to the decision of the joint meeting of BMA Chittagong branch, Independence Medical Council, Private Medical Institutions Association, Bangladesh Children’s Medical Association and other medical organizations on April 17.

On the morning of April 14, a doctor named Riaz Uddin Shiblu was attacked in the private hospital ‘Medical Center’ of Chittagong and on the night of April 10, doctor Raktim Das of Patia General Hospital was also attacked.

The closure of all private hospitals in Chittagong district was announced to demand justice for the guilty. Earlier, a two-hour strike was observed on April 20.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association-BMA Chittagong Branch Dr. Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury told bdnews24.com that this program is being held to protest the attack on two doctors in Patia and Chittagong city.

“The police arrested six persons in connection with the attack on the doctor of the medical center. But the next day they were granted bail. No one has been arrested in the Patiya incident yet.”

Demanding the arrest of the attackers, the leader of the doctors’ organization, Faisal Iqbal, said that the doctors are serving in government hospitals even if they keep their private chambers closed.

Chittagong private medical center manager Yasin Arafat told bdnews24.com that according to the decision, admission of new patients has been stopped since morning. Only those who are already hospitalized are being given medical care.

He also said that no doctor will do a private chamber on Tuesday.

Yasin said that no patient came to the hospital for treatment because of this announcement. No doctor will sit in the chamber even in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, a person working in a private hospital in Chittagong said that the patients who are in the hospitals are only being treated by the hospital’s own doctors. No specialist doctor can be brought to the hospital.

Meanwhile, private diagnostic centers adjacent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital are also not conducting any tests since morning.

A person named Bikash Kanti Nath from Chandanish Upazila of Chittagong said, “I came to the city to undergo some tests given by the doctor. I went to Epic and Popular in front of Chittagong Medical. They said, ‘There will be no test today’. Asking tomorrow to come.

“I thought, the patient will not be admitted to the hospital. Come and see – no tests are being done.”

To see specialist doctors in Chittagong, serials are usually given in the morning or the day before. Many of their phone numbers have been blocked. Again, many doctors are saying that they will not do the chamber on Tuesday.

Brigadier General Shamim Ahsan, director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, told bdnews24.com, “The activities of Chittagong Medical College Hospital are going on normally. Naturally, there is a pressure on the outdoors and in the lab.”

He also said that the pressure of testing in Chamek Hospital Lab is high.
