Rajshahi: In the second phase, the sixth upazila parishad election is going to be held on May 21. It has been declared valid the nomination papers of 31 candidates for the post of Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Female Vice-Chairman in Puthia, Durgapur and Bagmara Upazila Parishad elections of Rajshahi district.
In these three upazilas, the validity of the nomination papers submitted by 31 candidates for three posts was declared.
Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kalyan Chowdhury confirmed this information after verifying the nomination papers at Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner’s conference room at 12 noon on Tuesday (April 23).
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalyan Chowdhury, returning officer for the sixth upazila parishad election, said that the second phase of the upazila parishad election will be held on May 21. The main campaign of the candidates will begin with the allocation of symbols on May 2.
The Returning Officer specifically requested all the candidates to follow the instructions of the Election Commission regarding election meeting and campaigning in order to make the Sixth Upazila Parishad election free and peaceful.
Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Saqib Hasan Khan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Sania Binte Afzal, Upazila Election Officer Durgapur Zainul Abedin and others were present during the scrutiny of nomination papers.
It was informed at this time that in these three upazilas of Rajshahi, a total of 31 candidates had submitted nomination papers to contest the election. Among them, 10 candidates for the post of chairman, 11 for the post of vice chairman and 10 candidates for the post of female vice chairman submitted their nomination papers. Among them, the nomination papers of 31 people were declared valid.
At that time, the legitimate candidate for the post of chairman was announced, the current chairman of Durgapur upazila, the freedom fighter Nazrul Islam, Md. Sharifuzzaman and Abdul Majeed. In Puthia upazila, the present chairman is GM Hira Bachchu, Makhlesur Rahman, Abdus Samad and Ahsan Ul Haque Masud. Besides, Zakirul Islam, Abdur Razzak Sarkar and Nachima Akhtar in Bagmara upazila.
Abdul Quader Mondal, Hasem Ali, Abdul Motaleb, Shamim Feroze, Mosabber Sarkar Jinnah and Abdul Haque in Durgapur Upazila were announced as valid candidates for the post of Vice-Chairman. Fazle Rabbi Murad, Abdul Matin Mukul and Jamal Uddin in Puthia Upazila. Ataur Rahman and Shahidul Islam in Bagmara Upazila.
Woman declared as a valid candidate for the post of Vice Chairman, Mocha of Durgapur Upazila. Banesha Begum, Mosa. Sarmin Ahmed and Moses. Kahinur Begum. Mousumi Rahman of Puthia Upazila, Mosa. Parijan Begum and Moses. Shabnaaz Akhter. Mosa of Bagmara Upazila. Shahinur Khatun, Kohinur Banu, Khandkar Shahida Alam and Mosa. Mumtaz Akhtar’s baby.
According to the election schedule, nomination papers were selected on April 23. If there is any objection regarding the nomination paper, appeal can be made on April 24-26. The appeal will be disposed of between April 27-29. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is 30th April. And the symbol will be allotted on May 2. Voting is scheduled to be held on May 21 after campaigning.
