Dhaka: The High Court has ordered the formation of a committee for house-to-house inspection of Wasar sewage line and gas line in the capital city of Dhaka and to submit a report by April 30.

After the hearing of a writ application on Tuesday (23 April) Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md. The High Court bench of Atabullah gave this order.

Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed a writ petition in the public interest regarding multiple deaths due to accidents in two buildings in Dhaka’s Science Laboratory and Siddique Bazar.

In the writ, every house in Dhaka is asked to take measures by checking whether the sewer line connected to WASA and the gas line of Titus are proper.

Senior advocate Monzil Morsed appeared for the plaintiff in the court. Lawyer Abul Bashar Tutul stood for Titus.

Lawyer Manzil Morsed said that after the hearing, the court ordered WASA to form a committee. Two representatives of Dhaka North and South City Corporation, one representative of Titus Gas and one representative of Rajuk formed this committee of five members and ordered to submit the report by April 30 to implement the court order.

He also instructed to correct any errors found by testing.

In the hearing, Advocate Manzil Morsed said that there is a provision to periodically test the sewerage and Titus gas lines provided to every house in Dhaka city, but many accidents occur because the authorities do not do it. Because of which people die. WASA and TITAS gas should be directed to play their proper role to protect people from such unnecessary deaths.
