Three children drowned while bathing in the Padma river in Rajshahi.
The incident took place at Shyampur Balughat area of Katakhali municipality near Rajshahi city on Tuesday (April 23) around 1 pm.
After receiving the information, the divers of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the bodies of three children around 2.30 pm.
The three dead children are Md. Yuvraj (12), son of Md. Rentu of Bakhrabaz Dakshinpara Mahalla of Katakhali municipality, Md. Nuruzzaman (14) son of Noor Islam of the same area and Md. Ariful Islam Arif (14) son of Md. Liton.
Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense diving team leader Abdur Razzak told the media that the three children drowned in the Padma river at noon. Later the fire service was informed to rescue them. After that, the fire service diving team recovered the bodies around 2:30 pm.
According to local sources, seven children and teenagers went down to bathe in Padma river together. At one point, three people drowned in the water. The remaining four could not rescue anyone after trying. After receiving information, fire service divers came and recovered the bodies of three children.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Katakhali Police Station Touhidul Islam said that the diving team of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the bodies of three children. However, after the legal process, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives.
