Three teenagers died while taking bath in Padma river in Charshyampur area of Paba upazila of Rajshahi.
Two other teenagers lost their lives while trying to save a teenager who drowned while bathing in Padma river in Paba upazila of Rajshahi.
Rajshahi Sadar Fire Service Senior Station Officer Abu Sama said the bodies of three teenagers were recovered from the Padma River in the Charshyampur area of the upazila between 2:00 and 3:30 on Tuesday.
The deceased are Yuvraj, son of Rentu of Bakhrabaz Dakshinpara of Ward No. 5 of Katakhali municipality, Nuruzzaman, son of Noor Islam and Arif, son of Liton. The three, aged between 13 and 14 years, are students of the local Katakhali Jamia Osmania Madrasa.
About the teenagers who bathed with them, Senior Station Officer Abu Sama said that around 1 o’clock on Tuesday, seven teenagers went to bathe together in the Padma river in Charshyampur area.
“At one point Yuvraj drowned in the water. Then Nuruzzaman and Arif went ahead to save him. But they all drowned in the river. “
Not finding them, the relatives informed the fire service.
Abu Sama also said that after receiving the news, we went to the spot at half past one and the Dubri team started searching the area. After that three bodies were recovered one by one between 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
After the legal process, the bodies of the teenagers were handed over to the family members, said the fire service official.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, two students, including a student, drowned in the river Padma while taking a bath in the Harupur area of Rajshahi’s Kashiadanga police station.
