A young Ansar member committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his shotgun after writing ‘I am responsible for my death’ on the wall.

The deceased Ansar member was on duty at the residence of the Bandar Upazila Executive Officer of Narayanganj.

The Ansar member named Afzal Hossain (25) died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday (April 22) evening. Police say he committed suicide by shooting himself.

Deceased Afzal is the son of deceased Ahidur Rahman of Ghazaria village of Mirsarai police station of Chittagong district.

Upazila Ansar VDP officer Arif Hossain said that the deceased Afzal was transferred from Sonargaon and was doing his first duty at the port on Monday. At around 4:20 PM, he was found shot dead in the guard room of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s residence. He was first taken to Bandar Upazila Health Complex and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died in the evening.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station Golam Mostafa said that after receiving the information, the police went to the spot and took the injured Ansar member to the hospital. He died in the evening while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. It is initially believed that he committed suicide.

Bandar Upazila Executive Officer MA Muhaimin Al Jihan said, I was not at my residence at the time of the incident. On hearing the news, I went there and saw him lying in a bloody state. He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died. The shotgun and one shell were seized. A committee will be formed to investigate the matter.
