Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan discussed regional and global security, including the situation in Myanmar, the Russia-Ukraine war and the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

These issues were discussed at the Bangladesh-Kyrgyzstan joint consultative meeting (FOC) held at Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Monday (April 22).

Before the FOC meeting held in Dhaka for the first time, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding regarding FOC between the foreign ministries of the two countries. After signing the FOC, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen led the meeting on behalf of Dhaka. On the other hand, Abazbek Atakhanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, led for his country.

The meeting discussed various bilateral issues including political cooperation, candidature in various multilateral forums, increase in bilateral trade, educational cooperation, agricultural cooperation.

Both sides agreed in the meeting that the volume of trade between the two countries is very negligible. However, there is ample opportunity to further increase bilateral trade if both sides want. Both sides expressed hope in the meeting that the pending MoU between the two countries would be signed soon.

The Foreign Secretary requested Kyrgyzstan to import garments, jute products, ceramics, etc. from Bangladesh. He mentioned that tourist spots of Bangladesh like Cox’s Bazar and Sundarbans can be attractive destinations for Kyrgyz tourists.

The meeting also discussed opportunities and ways to increase bilateral cooperation in education and culture in consultation with the Ministry of External Affairs.
